PUNG-DONG CULTURE FESTIVAL - JUST A SUPER EVENT
Before yesterday finally the long awaited struggle culture festival in Ilsan/Pung-dong took place. The festival was organized to support the struggle of the residents there against the terror of the construction mafia (here you can read more about the background of their struggle).
And the festival simply was a real great success. Actually it needs not many words to describe the wonderful atmosphere there.
First of all the whole area was decorated with a lot of banners and flags with slogans supporting the struggle and demanding the rights for the struggling residents. Already short after the entrance of the site a line with colored balloons led to the festival area.
There already many people gathered, some plaid drums and other instruments, many were sitting together, discussing or just eating the delicious food, prepared by the residents and their supporters and enjoying traditional drinks.
Of course many activists fighting similar struggles joined, but also many students, organized workers – like Seoul Subway Workers Unionists – members of political organizations, such as DLP and members of several solidarity groups participated on the event.
The culture program, among others, dancing group “Wild Flower”, protest singer Ryoo Geum-shin and a student “mime” group made a stage, was very good. An of course Pung-dong residents created their own “mime” performance – just impressive to see!
Several speeches were held and the words of Paek Ki-wan brought the audience to real storms of enthusiasm.
Together with comrades from ”Struggle and Rice”, No Break and others we had a really great evening and night of solidarity, power (and power, of course, we need for our coming, common fights!) and...
